Matchday 6 (Group Stages)
Tuesday 5th/Wednesday 6th May
Group E – Becamex Bình (VIE) 1-0 Kashiwa Reysol (JPN)
Group F – Gamba Osaka (JPN) 2-1 Seongnam FC (KOR)
Group G – Brisbane Roar (AUS) 1-2 Urawa Red Diamonds (JPN)
Group H – Kashima Antlers (JPN) 2-3 FC Seoul (KOR)
On the Tuesday, Group G & H took centre stage for the JLeague teams, Urawa finished off thier ACL campaign with a win against Aussie side Brisbane, but in that also knocked out their opponents and stopped them getting into the round of 16, Kashima Antlers finished their ACL campaign with a 3-2 defeat against FC Seoul, so Urawa & Kashima were the 2 clubs that were knocked out of the group stages, Wednesday’s games were a different story
On Wednesday, Group E & F were played, Kashiwa Reysol lost 1-0 to Binh but Reysol were already qualified for the Round of 16 and also finished top of the group as well (due to h2h, gd etc), but the big game on wednesday was Gamba’s game against Seongnam FC, Gamba needed to win the game against Seongnam to at least guarantee a place in the next round, didnt start well at all for Gamba as they conceded a goal on 15 minutes but had to wait till the 64th minute to get the all important goal, then the momentum was with Gamba and then they scored in the 82nd minute to make the points secure, it was a bit of confusion on where Gamba finished in the table but then AFC confirmed that Gamba has finished top and Seongnam finished 2nd
So the Round of 16 (East) look likes this for JLeague teams –
Suwon Bluewings v Kashiwa Reysol
FC Seoul v Gamba Osaka
